I like the large campus at Brock, which has many places to socialise and complete coursework. This meant I had many opportunities to work independently. My teachers were very friendly and always went above and beyond to help me with coursework and revision.

The excellent computing facilities were a major asset for me because most of my lessons were computer-based. Also, Brock offered subjects that weren’t offered by other colleges I had visited, such as Electronics.

I’ve always wanted to learn about electronics, but was never sure where to start. A Level Electronics has built on my existing knowledge and been a lot of fun. In my first year I learned and used assembly language to control a PIC microcontroller. Then in my second year I applied all my knowledge to build a complex circuit.

During my studies I took advantage of the Robotics Enrichment opportunity, which was very enjoyable. My group built and programmed a robot to represent Brock in the national Student Robotics Competition 2016 where we managed to achieve 4th place. This experience improved my teamwork and practical programming skills massively.

Brock organised many talks from local organisations, which allowed me to speak to employers. The College also organised trips to places such as JP Morgan, which I found very useful for deciding between university and an Apprenticeship.

I’m planning to go to university to study Computer Science, although I’m not yet sure how I want to specialise. Brock really helped me to grasp the specific features of different career paths through its Higher Education Fairs and Apprenticeship Fairs. The variety of subjects offered by the college can give you a taste of almost any career.
