At school, I was a high achiever and wanted a bigger challenge, not only academically but socially, that would allow me to progress to the next level. I believed, and still do, that Brock was the best place for me to achieve that.

What made you choose Brock?
The main reason was the independence that college gives you. I felt that leaving the familiarity of a school environment and starting afresh, meeting new people and having new experiences would help prepare me for the next transition to higher education. Choosing Brock over a sixth form has helped me bridge the gap between school and university and has provided me with the skills required for more independent study.
What was your background before you decided to come to college?
Prior to Brock, I attended Twynham School in Christchurch. I was a high achiever and wanted a bigger challenge, not only academically but socially, that would allow me to progress to the next level. I believed, and still do, that Brock was the best place for me to achieve that.
What do you like best about Brock?
The best bit about Brock has to be the teachers. They are 100% committed to their work and are all passionate about their teaching. Whether its trouble with a complex topic or general advice, they are always on-hand to help you by any means necessary.
What have you enjoyed?
One of my highlights at Brock has to be the Football Academy. I am a keen footballer and wanted to incorporate a physical activity alongside my academic studies because I believe this helps alleviate any stress and provides a balance with your studies. We play weekly and tend to do quite well. I have improved my football game both on and off the pitch thanks to specialised coaching and great facilities.
How do you feel supported in your studies?
I have always felt well-supported in my studies. My teachers are always on-hand to help with any questions I may have. We also have a separate tutor session every week with an independent teacher. During these, you can always ask questions you may perhaps feel uncomfortable asking one of your subject teachers.
Have you taken up any opportunities since studying at the college? In what ways did they help your development?
During Enrichment I play for the Youth Alliance football team. We compete in a challenging league every Wednesday, and this season we have finished mid-table in the U19s league and reached the quarter-final of a National Cup. I also organised four weeks of legal work experience over the past year, which the college supported me to obtain.
How has Brock helped you with your next steps?
My weekly tutor sessions have helped me the most. These inform me about any work experience, Careers Fairs or extra academic opportunities. My tutor has been particularly helpful because she works in the humanities field. She has assisted me throughout my university applications, enabling me to prepare and succeed in my LNAT (a required law test for some universities). This has resulted in many offers from leading universities.
