Studying Geology has opened up so many career options for me. I felt the course really suited my interests and helped me in my other subjects. Archaeology was so interesting, and it’s such a specialist subject that I wouldn’t have been able to learn about it anywhere else.

Studied:

Archaeology (A*), Geology (A) and Biology (A)

Where are you now?

University of Plymouth studying Geology

Congratulations on your results. How do you feel?

“These are exactly the results I was hoping for, so I feel great.”

Are there any members of staff who have particularly helped you during your studies?

“Kirsten my Geology lecturer really helped me with the university application process. My parents didn’t want me to go away to study, so she helped me convince them that it was the best thing for me.”

What has been your highlight while attending Brock?

“The Lanzarote trip with the Geology team was great. Also, just the sense of freedom you get here at Brock is really nice.”

What made you choose to study at Brock?

“I chose Brock because nowhere else in the area offered courses in Archaeology and Geology, and I really wanted to go into these areas. Studying Geology has opened up so many career opportunities for me and I can’t wait to study it at university.”

Have you taken up any extra opportunities?

“I was part of the Students’ Union in my second year, which was really good and made me more confident in talking to people. In my first year I engaged with the Broadway Singing Enrichment option as a fun thing to do on the side.”

What did you enjoy or find particularly inspiring about your subject?

“Studying Geology has opened up so many career options for me. I felt the course really suited my interests and helped me in my other subjects. Biology, while it was challenging, was interesting and eye-opening.”

What are you planning to do next?

“I’m going to the University of Plymouth to study Geology. My time at Brock definitely helped me decide what I’m going to do next.”

What are your long-term career goals?

“I would like to go into renewable energy. It depends what happens at university, but I definitely want to stick with geology.”
