Highwood Nursery

We have regular meetings with our training providers who give us the off-the-job training element and provide Apprentices with work to complete. They also have regular contact with the candidates and support them with learning and understanding their role.

What are the main benefits the apprenticeship scheme has brought to your business?

“It has enabled us to train staff in the way we would like them to work. The fact that our Apprentices gain experience while training means they acquire realistic expectations of their role.”

Please describe the support you and your Apprentices have received from Brock:

“We have regular meetings with our training providers who give us the off-the-job training element and provide Apprentices with work to complete. They also have regular contact with the candidates and support them with learning and understanding their role.”

How does the scheme aid your long-term human resources strategy?

“It means we are better-able to plan and prepare for future staff changes and consider important recruitment needs. It really helps us in retaining good, experienced staff and providing opportunities for promotion within the setting.”

What advice would you give to a fellow employer who is thinking about getting an Apprentice?

“It’s been invaluable for us. Don’t be put off if the first couple of Apprentices don’t work out. Indeed, it can take a while to work out what you are looking for with regard to the recruitment process and determine candidates’ abilities etc.”
