Congratulations on your results. How do you feel?
“I am really pleased and surprised at my results as I was predicted Bs for Maths and Computer Science, so I achieved better than expected.”
Are there any members of staff who have particularly helped you during your studies?
“My teachers have been so helpful during my time at Brock. Physics lessons were enjoyable because my teacher, Hugo made learning fun. All of my class really liked having Hugo as our teacher.
Another teacher who went the extra mile was Charlie Brown, who taught me Computer Science. For our project in Computer Science, we were able to choose an area that we were particularly interested in and base our work around it. Charlie was really supportive and helped me to pursue my interests despite the fact that everyone in the class had chosen their own specialist area.”
What has been your highlight while attending Brock?
“For me, the highlight of coming to Brock has been meeting new people and making new friends. In my first year, I also took part in the Music enrichment which helped me to meet people outside of my usual study groups.
I really enjoyed taking part in the Music enrichment programme because I got to perform at live shows and build my confidence in front of a crowd. I plan to continue my interest in music alongside my studies, so this was really good experience.”
What made you choose to study at Brock?
“I chose to come to Brock because I attended an open day and really enjoyed it. The staff were so friendly and the facilities for Music were really good, which was originally what I wanted to study.”
Have you taken up any extra opportunities?
“As I previously mentioned, I took the Music enrichment and I also took advantage of the College’s Next Steps programme. This helped me decide my progression route after completing my A levels, and what I needed to achieve to get there.
I attended a University fair at the College and spoke to representatives from different universities. After attending the fair, I decided that I would like to find out more about the University of Surrey, which is where I will be going next.
The College’s Careers Advisor also really helped me. I wanted to study Engineering at university, and Surrey has a really good reputation for Engineering. Speaking to the Careers Advisor helped me to find out more about the world of Engineering, and the future prospects that studying it at university could bring. This inspired me, and also helped to finalise my decision. “
What are you planning to do next?
“I’m not completely sure what my long-term career goals are after university. However, I am hoping to go into an engineering-based role in the near future.”
Did your time at Brock help you decide what you might like to do?
“Definitely. Whilst at College, I completed work experience at a local engineering company. This helped give me an insight to what happens in a real life workplace, and motivated me to study Engineering in the future.”
