Ralph Roberts

I have taken up many extra opportunities at Brock. I was part of the Robotics Enrichment for two years, joined the HE+ group, was in an Aspire tutor group, and attended two summer schools. The Robotics Enrichment helped me decide that this was something I’d like to do in the future.

Studied:

Maths (A*), Further Maths (A*), Physics (A*), Computer Science (A*)

Where are you now?

The University of Bristol studying Computer Science.

Congratulations on your results. How do you feel?

I am so pleased with my results. I thought I would get three A*s, but I am really happy about Further Maths.

Are there any particular members of staff who have helped you throughout your time at Brock?

Charlie Brown, my Computer Science teacher, is a really good guy. And my Physics teacher, Alex Crutchley… He was such a laugh and he organised some really great trips to Iceland and Geneva.

What have been your ‘highlights’ or best experiences while attending Brock?

I really enjoyed the field trips I went on, but another personal highlight was the Student Robotics Challenge. This was part of the Robotics Enrichment. Sixty teams took part and our team achieved a 21-win streak.

What made you choose to study at Brock?

I chose to study at Brock because I knew I would be treated like an adult and it would be a good step towards university.

What extra opportunities have you taken while studying at Brock?

I have taken up many extra opportunities at Brock. I was part of the Robotics Enrichment for two years, joined the HE+ group, was in an Aspire tutor group, and attended two summer schools – one at Oxford and the other in Southampton.

What did you enjoy or find particularly inspiring about your subjects?

My Computer Science lessons were great. I really enjoyed learning to code, and Charlie always brought the theories alive. Alex, my Physics teacher, would always find different ways to explain concepts to the group, ensuring that everyone understood.

What are your long-term career goals?

Something involving Computer Science – maybe become a games engineer.

Did your time at Brock help you to decide what you might like to do?

The Robotics Enrichment helped me decide that this was something I’d like to do in the future.
