Our Board of Governors oversees the strategic direction of the College and scrutinises performance. Governors bring a breadth of skills and experience and also reflect our community interests.

We are a major employer in our area, employing 750 full-time and part-time staff across our business, academic and administrative workforces. We have campuses in Brockenhurst, New Milton, Marchwood, Lymington and Southampton. Furthermore, Highwood Nursery, which is on our main campus, provides childcare to local working families.

All staff contribute to the regional economy through travel, use of shops, demand for housing and use of other facilities. In addition, we use the services of many local businesses for transportation, estates management, equipment and consumables. For example, our in-house restaurant, MJ’s, aims to use local produce whenever possible.

At Brock we are committed to ensuring that all our students receive the very best education and training opportunities available. This is possible thanks to the dedication of our teaching staff and our investment in facilities.

The success of our students is evidenced by their progression to Higher Education and a wide range of careers locally, nationally and internationally. We track the progress of our Alumni so we can record their career successes and invite them back to talk to students about their experiences.

We enable people to gain the necessary skills, knowledge and qualifications to become teachers. Our specialist courses in Maths, English and Early Years teaching helps ensure that our region has the necessary talent pool to meet personnel requirements.

We have developed excellent relationships with businesses across our region, and we provide bespoke apprenticeships and training opportunities tailored to suit specific industry needs.

Many students on Vocational courses will undertake work placements, giving them valuable experience and providing new ideas for training providers. The local marine, construction, tourism and hospitality sectors are just some of the areas that benefit.

We are committed to supporting people with learning differences and physical disabilities across our Sixth Form and Adult Learning provision.  Importantly, we have developed programmes to ensure learners obtain the necessary support to develop their knowledge and skills.

Our Additional Learning Support team works with students, parents, carers and other professionals to ensure additional learning needs are identified and met with appropriate strategies and resources. For example, we have an Inspiration Room for learners on the autistic spectrum and vulnerable students who might benefit from a quiet space.

We offer adults opportunities to gain new skills and knowledge in a wide variety of subjects. Adult learners also use these opportunities to make new friends and to connect with others from their community. We work to ensure that everyone is able to participate regularly and make the most of the cultural, creative and educational opportunities available.

We have excellent relationships with a number of governmental and other organisations across our region. For example, we work closely with New Forest District Council on developing business partnerships and with Go New Forest to provide information about tourism job vacancies in the area.

We also work closely with Brockenhurst Parish Council to support village community events and maintain student/village relationships. In addition, we work with Southampton City Council’s Quickstart retail employment initiative, and with Hampshire County Council and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council on other training programmes.

At Brock we offer a wide range of courses designed for anyone looking to further their careers, take specific qualifications and/or learn new industry skills. We also work with businesses to offer apprenticeships for young adults in a variety of sectors.

Our Quickstart retail skills initiative, based at Basepoint Enterprise Centre in Southampton, provides retailers and retail workers with high-quality training opportunities. Our Employment Support team also runs free training, advice and support for those who are unemployed or have been made redundant.

This ongoing commitment to education, training and employment aims to tackle national issues at a local level and ensure businesses can maintain a successful workforce and sustain growth.

Our range of apprenticeship opportunities covering the hospitality sector means employers can access a rich pool of talent, while people seeking employment can receive the training they need.

Arts and culture play an important role in college life at Brock. Each year we exhibit work from Visual Arts and Media students. We also stage musical and drama productions for the general public.

All students are encouraged to participate in artistic and cultural pursuits through a variety of Enrichment programmes. Meanwhile, many studying arts and culture subjects progress to Higher Education and successful careers in the creative arts sector regionally, nationally and sometimes internationally.

We encourage staff and students to undertake fundraising activities for national, regional and local charities. Many successful initiatives take place each year, highlighting the community spirit at Brock.

We work closely with our two regional Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs): The Solent LEP and Enterprise M3 LEP. With Enterprise M3 LEP we are working collaboratively to access additional funding to provide skills support for people in employment.

All our students are encouraged to participate in sporting activities to gain team-building skills and to enhance their overall health and wellbeing.

Our Sports Academy students represent the College in regional and national sporting competitions. There are Academies in Football, Rugby, Basketball, Netball and Hockey.

Over the years, we have had the pleasure of guiding Olympic hopefuls and learners who have secured scholarships to top sporting universities. In addition, there have been many call-ups for students to represent Great Britain Colleges, as well as national sides at U-19 level.

A high number of International students choose to study at Brock each year, bringing additional income not just for the College but for the wider community.

Meanwhile, our sister school initiative with a school in Zhuhai, China, helps underline the UK’s expertise in education. Our teachers also benefit from this collaboration, gaining experience of China and its culture.

Travel to China broadens our students’ world experience and better-equips them for further study and employment. It also enhances cultural awareness within our college community. Furthermore, our Confucius Classroom initiative promotes Chinese culture and Chinese language among local learners, encouraging early awareness of this important global power.

The College regularly undertakes specific activities in relation to education and learning which, though driven nationally, are designed to complement and enhance regional activity.

Supported by the recommendations of the Solent Area Based Review, the College has developed a joint venture with Bournemouth and Poole College to better meet apprenticeship and business needs across the area in the light of national changes to funding for apprenticeships.

We are pleased to be working with local schools as part of the Hampshire Safe Partnership. The scheme aims to further educate young people about road safety, relationship safety and the dangers of substance misuse, among other things.
