Course introduction

Being an electrical engineer is a skilled, responsible, well paid vocation for which there are many different avenues of employment.

This course is designed to give you the skills and knowledge you need to press ahead with your ambitions, as well as gain a highly recognised qualification.

Importantly, you will learn how to fit and repair electrical circuits and wiring. You will also develop a full understanding of safety rules, electrical theory, regulation and security systems.

You will study under the supervision of experienced professionals who bring a broad range of experience. This includes electrical contracting, electrical fitting, electrical maintenance, electronics and telecommunications.

In addition, you will acquire knowledge about the way the construction industry functions, giving you important insights that will help you find work.

Teaching & learning

The course will be delivered using a wide variety of teaching methods. Theory units will include lectures, group discussions, group activities and research tasks.

You will also learn from a range of digital and paper resources to gain a solid understanding of best practice.

Practical content will assist you in gaining and developing understanding and experience of inspection, testing and commissioning, as well as fault diagnosis and rectification in electrical installations.

Minimum entry requirements

Level 2 Diploma:

Four GCSEs at grade 3 and above to include: 

  • English Language grade 4
  • Maths grade 4
  • Science

In addition, you should have a keen interest in a career in the electrical industry.

Information & support

At level 2, there is an approximate 40% practical to 60% theory split in terms of course delivery.

For the practical content you will gain and develop skills for the installation of a wide variety of wiring systems and enclosures, including domestic, commercial & industrial.

In terms of theory, you will gain and develop an understanding of health and safety in building services engineering, principles of electrical science, electrical installations technology and the importance of effective communication.

Fees

Students are required to pay a £125 materials fee at enrolment.

Students will also be required to purchase a uniform, more details will be provided at enrolment.

What can I do with this qualification?

Once you have gained your Electrical Installations qualification you may wish to progress onto a higher-level course, which may include higher education depending on the level attained.

Holding a recognised qualification in this area will make you a more suitable candidate for junior job roles and apprenticeships.
