Exploring Acrylics Workshop

Exploring Acrylics Workshop

Course introduction

You will use acrylic paints to portray a variety of subjects, including landscape, seascape and flowers. You will learn how to mix colours beforehand and mix directly onto the surface to create a more textural and abstract approach. You will also learn how to build up textures through layering and use impasto methods, where you use your paint thickly, creating a more spontaneous and impressionist result. Your Tutor will provide you with visual resources, but you may wish to bring your own.

Course information

Please bring surfaces to work on. The following surfaces are all suitable for this workshop: canvas, canvas board, thick cardboard (primed before use with white acrylic paint), 300gsm watercolour paper (this is suitable for working with acrylic paint). Please also bring paints such as white, black, blue, red and yellow. You may bring other colours if you have them, but if you are new to this medium, then this is a basic palette. Sets of paints are also available from art shops and the internet. Please bring brushes too, such as flat and round brushes. You will also experiment with using other tools to apply paint (these will be supplied). There will be a variety of brushes available for you to use in the art studio at Fusee House, along with table easels. If you do not have any paints and would like to purchase these at a reasonable price, then they are available at Milford Supplies, Gore Road, New Milton.
