Glitz and glamour steal the show at ‘dazzling’ Brockenhurst College Sports Awards
27 March 2026
Sports students stepped into sharp suits and elegant evening dresses for the Brockenhurst College Sports Awards on Wednesday night, creating a big buzz on campus.
More than 200 guests turned on the style to take their seats around dining tables in the main hall for the glittering event.
In total, 37 awards were presented for outstanding sporting performances and contributions.
The ceremony was hosted by Principal and CEO Helen Odhams, who invited each Sports Academy head up on stage to announce winners, present trophies and read citations.
Award categories within each Sports Academy meant outstanding performances from every team were recognised.
One of the most hotly anticipated accolades of the night was the award for Contribution to Sport, which went to Max Burnell from Bournemouth, who is a talented rugby player.
Max said afterwards: “I wasn’t expecting to win, especially after being injured this season, so it’s great to be recognised for my contribution.
“Brock has given me a strong foundation, with supportive teachers and coaches who’ve helped me develop.
“Next, I’m going to Cardiff Met to study Sports Management and Coaching, with the aim of helping others get into sport like I did.”
The Team of Year award went to the Men’s Rugby first team, who faced stiff competition from footballers, netballers and basketballers, who were also nominated.
Meanwhile, cross country star Jon Pepin from Everton walked away with the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme Award.
Netball Academy Player of the Year award winner, Libby Carrigan from Burton, who has been working alongside former England player Mia Ritchie and England Netball, said later:
“It’s been a really good night and I’m very grateful to win.
“Brock has supported me in so many ways, from my course to my netball career, with really supportive teachers throughout.
“In the future, I want to set up my own netball academy to help young players develop and progress into performance-level sport.”
Other eye-catching features from the night included an elaborate balloon-arch and a photo booth.
Head of Sport Kirsty Buckland said: “Well done to all our winners and well done to the coaches who pushed them all the way.
“Tonight’s event has been truly dazzling, with our sports stars making a huge collective effort to turn out in style.”
