Elite performers in science, technology, engineering and maths subjects at Brockenhurst College were formally recognised for their achievements at the college’s STEM Awards last Thursday evening.
The twilight, invitation-only event was staged in the main hall and represented the climax of British Science Week 2026 at Brock.
It was hosted by Principal and CEO Helen Odhams, alongside Chair of Governors Bob Hogg, and was sponsored by Osprey Charging, which provides a charging network for electric vehicles.
Each winner collected a framed certificate containing a citation, along with a cheque for either £50 or £25, depending on whether they had won a Gold Award or a Silver Award.
Also, South Coast Institute of Technology director Matt Johnson gave a keynote speech about the skills and personal attributes needed to be successful in a STEM career.
Mia Slattery from Lymington won the Gold Award for Geology and the Silver Award for Environmental Science.
She said afterwards: “I feel completely honoured to win these awards – I wasn’t expecting it at all. I’m really proud of the hard work that I’ve been putting in, and I’m really happy that it’s been recognised. I’m hoping to go to university and study something related to earth sciences.
