Students at Brockenhurst College gained insight and inspiration for their next steps last week by engaging with a packed programme of progression events marking National Careers Week.

Tuesday saw representatives of over 50 UK universities exhibit at Brock’s Higher Education Fair, where students were encouraged to mingle, collect printed information, and ask questions about courses and institutions.

Next Steps Day also took place on Tuesday, which saw academics from universities and business community partners deliver over 90 talks and workshops on a range of careers and subjects.

On Thursday, Brock hosted an Apprenticeship and Employment Fair, featuring over 30 business, as well as national and local organisations, who offered information, advice and guidance on a wide range of career sectors.

These included health and social care; engineering; business and finance; accounting; the armed forces; conservation and the environment; and hospitality and retail.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, as well as Border Force, were on hand to provide careers information, advice and guidance too.

Head of Careers, Alistair Lambon, said: “These two large careers events are part of our annual Careers Education Programme.

“The aim is to offer an opportunity for all our students to gain valuable information and advice on the pathways that are open to them when they complete their programmes with us.

“This could be about moving onto Higher Education, gaining an apprenticeship or employment, or taking time out to do volunteering.

“The opportunity to meet and talk directly to academics, industry experts and recruiters is invaluable in supporting students to make informed decisions about their next steps.

“I am always extremely grateful to everyone who gives up their time to make these events such a success.”
