College Nurse

Our college Nurse plays a vital role in supporting the health, wellbeing and success of our students. With extensive experience within the NHS including neonatal intensive care, paediatric training, paediatric A&E, sexual health services and maternity care. The nurse brings a wealth of clinical knowledge and compassionate practice to the college community.

Supporting Students with Long-Term Health Conditions

The College Nurse develops and oversees Health Care Plans for students with long-term or complex medical needs. As part of the transition process into college, these plans are completed prior to a student’s start date, working closely with parent/carers and relevant professionals. This ensures that appropriate support, reasonable adjustments and safeguarding measures are in place from day one, enabling students to access their education confidently and safely.

Daily Health and Wellbeing Support

On a day-to-day basis, the College nurse operates in a role similar to that of a practice nurse, providing:

  • General health assessments and advice
  • Medication reviews and monitoring
  • Management of ongoing medical needs
  • First aid and urgent care support
  • Sexual Health and Referral Services

Mental Health and Holistic Care

Working closely with pastoral, safeguarding and teaching staff, the College nurse contributes to a holistic approach to student wellbeing. She responds to emerging mental health concerns, supports early intervention, and makes referrals to appropriate services when needed. This collaborative approach ensures students receive coordinated and comprehensive support.

Sexual Health advice

The College Nurse offers confidential sexual health advice and can facilitate appropriate referrals to external services where required. Students are supported in accessing accurate information, screening services and specialist support in a safe and non-judgemental environment.
