Teaching & learning
You will learn by carrying out assignments and activities that incorporate a wide range of learning experiences.
There will also be a series of practical workshops in areas such as lighting, darkroom manipulation, Photoshop, composition and equipment.
The course can be split into three main perspectives: technical, analytical and creative. Your teachers will work with you to develop your skills in each of these.
Minimum entry requirements
Four GCSEs at grade 4 and above to include:
• English Language
• Maths
If you have previously taken Level 2 Professional Photography you must have achieved a Merit or Distinction.
Please note, the full course title for these programmes is Art and Design (Photography).
Course structure
- Build a portfolio to evidence your development as a photographer, giving you something to show prospective employers/customers.
- Master experimental darkroom practices as well as digital ones.
- Learn how to use our photographic studio to its full potential in order to develop important skills.
- Study Adobe Photoshop in order to acquire detailed knowledge of digital production techniques.
- Experiment with visual recording, graphic design and mixed media to gain wider skills, knowledge and experience.
- Work on live briefs for real clients.
What can I do with this qualification?
This course aims to broaden your artistic horizons and prepare you for higher level study such as an HND or BA Photography course.
Furthermore, your newly-acquired technical, creative and analytical skills will serve you throughout your life.
Past students have gone on to work as cruise ship photographers, design agency image specialists, national press photgraphers/picture editors, fashion photography assistants, sports photographers, and have also set up their own businesses.
