As a student, you will…

• Learn to perform basic manicure and pedicure treatments to industry standard.
• Develop skills in cleansing, toning and moisturising while advising on skincare.
• Create day make-up looks and explore creative techniques such as themed and photographic make-up.
• Practise head massage techniques to promote relaxation and client wellbeing.
• Demonstrate safe and professional working practices within a salon environment.
• Build confidence by working with others, supporting salon duties and developing client care skills.

Teaching & learning

Teaching will blend hands-on, practical training with modern, interactive learning.

You will take part in live demonstrations, group discussions and active learning sessions.

Course assessment

Assessment will be mainly practical, supported by coursework and one external test.

You will be observed regularly by your assessor while carrying out treatments, building evidence in a portfolio to demonstrate your skills, knowledge and understanding.

Internal assessments will be set and marked by your tutors.

You will also complete one externally set question paper, either online or written.

Your progress is carefully monitored, with both internal and external quality checks ensuring your work meets industry standards.

Minimum entry requirements

You should be enthusiastic about the beauty industry and have a positive attitude towards practical learning.

You should also demonstrate good communication skills, a willingness to work with others and a commitment to health and safety.

An interview and/or initial assessment will form part of the entry process.

You will need to achieve four GCSEs at grade 2 or above, including English and Maths.

Alternatively, you should have successfully completed a Foundation Entry Level 3 qualification and have achieved an Entry Level 3 or higher in English and Maths.
