Exploring Watercolour Landscapes

Course introduction


On this course you will explore watercolours to create landscapes. You will study composition, colour mixing, warm and cool colours, wet into wet techniques, wet paint on dry paper, dry brush and other watercolour techniques. You will experiment with brush strokes, graduated washes and granulating pigments.

Course information


Please bring:

  • Watercolours in tubes or pans (small set, whatever colours you have – a limited palette will include ultramarine-blue, lemon yellow, yellow ochre, or raw sienna or alizarin crimson.
  • Watercolour paper: 300gsm Bockingford ‘not surface’ is suitable (available from art shops in sheets or pads).
  • Brushes: synthetic watercolour brushes, large and small (round and flat).

Your Tutor will bring visual resources and historical examples.
