Pilates – improvers
Course introduction
This improvers Pilates class is suitable for people who require a sound base to develop their knowledge and/or people returning from a long absence. Pilates works on core strength while improving posture, body tone, alignment, strength, flexibility, co-ordination and breath control, while listening to your body’s needs. It is an exercise system that builds through levels and is used by physiotherapists to enhance healing and by professional sports persons and dancers to improve performance. This is a mat-based Pilates system that is taught primarily on the floor. To get the most out of the class you may wish to use of a chair, yoga block, cushion and/or towel. Pilates is a non-competitive exercise system that develops personal health, wellbeing and body awareness, which can be incorporated into your everyday life in the home, at work, when out and about, and/or during times of relaxation. Each class will commence with a short warm up. You will then build up a repertoire of Pilates exercises and find the level that is most suited to your personal needs, finally finishing the class with relaxation.

You will also need a non-slip Pilates or yoga mat, a yoga block and resistance band. A cushion and a towel for support where needed may be useful. Please also bring a bottle of water for rehydration. Please seek the advice of your medical physician if you are receiving, have had any recent treatments, or you are in doubt about any condition that could affect your participation.
