Course introduction


This course was created to help you develop your independence skills further and enable you to learn about healthy lifestyles, as well as how to access the community around you.

Skills for Life?


At Brock we opened a £4.9m Foundation and Independence Hub in 2023.

The new building includes 14 new classrooms, social space, meeting rooms and a student kitchen.

Course modules/units


Topics covered will include health and leisure activities, contributing to the community, healthy living, enterprise projects and financial awareness.

You will also continue learning English and maths at the appropriate levels.

Teaching & learning


You will benefit from a wide range of teaching and learning methods, giving you a well-rounded learning experience.

These include classroom activities, community activities, tutorials, group work and individual work.

Minimum entry requirements


You may be accepted onto the course if…

  • You have an EHCP and we can meet your Special Educational Needs.
  • You want to improve your knowledge, confidence, social communication skills and independence skills.
  • You learn best in small groups.
  • You have some learning difficulties.

What can I do with this qualification?


Once you have successfully completed this programme, you may progress onto the next level of course at our Foundation department.

Progression routes will be carefully selected with you to match your individual strengths, interests and aspirations.
