Understanding the Principles of Dementia Care – Level 3
Course introduction
This qualification is designed to provide you with thorough knowledge of dementia and dementia care. It is ideal if you are already employed in the health and social care sector and wish to upskill. You will develop an in-depth understanding of dementia and its effects. Importantly, you will explore the various types of dementia and the importance of early diagnosis. In addition, you will focus on person-centred approaches to dementia care and the role of communication, as well as interaction and inclusion in dementia care and support.

Cost
There is a course fee of £450.00 Your course could be fully funded if you are unemployed and in receipt of benefits, or earning less than £25,000.00 annual gross salary.
Minimum entry requirements
You should have a Level 2 qualification or equivalent in a similar subject area. You will be assessed to ensure your level of English meets the requirements of the course. You will need a basic level of IT skills in order to navigate the e-portfolio platform.

Unit 2: Understand how person-centred approaches are used to underpin the care and support of individuals with dementia
Unit 3: Principles of communication and interaction in dementia care and support
Unit 4: Supporting positive interaction, occupation and activity in dementia care
Unit 5: Principles of equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care and support
Unit 6: Understand how to support individuals with dementia to exercise choice and rights
Unit 7: Principles of the administration of medication and wellbeing of individuals with dementia
