Brockenhurst College’s Adult Learning Manager, Ellie Winfield, has spoken up to raise awareness about a series of free courses designed to support teachers and youth workers.

The online Level 2 courses are fully-funded as part of a government initiative.

The big idea is to equip people with the knowledge and skills needed to tackle challenges commonly experienced by children and young people.

The programmes comprise:

Understanding Distressed Behaviour in Children
Introducing Caring for Children and Young People
Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values
Understanding Children and Young People’s Mental Health
Understanding Autism

Applicants are able to select the course that is most appropriate for their work, choose a combination of courses, or study them all.

There is also a classroom based Level 2 course in Supporting Teaching and Learning, which is free to people earning less than £25,000 a year.

Ellie Winfield said: “Although these free courses record excellent feedback from learners, we’re still finding they’re not widely known about by school and youth group leaders.

“That’s why I’m working closely with Brockenhurst College’s Marketing and School Liaison teams to make sure the benefits are known and understood by everyone who works with young people.

“As well as gaining new knowledge and skills, the free courses give learners greater confidence and a pathway to career progression.”
