Course introduction

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese practice that combines slow, flowing movements with mindful awareness and relaxed breathing. It offers a gentle way to develop balance, coordination, flexibility and body awareness while promoting calm, confidence and a sense of wellbeing.

This welcoming course is designed for beginners and anyone who would benefit from more time and support to develop their practice before progressing to an improvers’ level. Throughout the course, you will learn a structured sequence of traditional Tai Chi movements, exploring the connection between movement, breath and body awareness. You will develop greater awareness of your posture, balance and coordination, learning to move with greater ease, stability and confidence.

Sessions will also introduce simple breathing exercises and meditation practices to encourage relaxation, reduce unnecessary tension and help you feel more grounded. These skills can support your Tai Chi practice and bring a greater sense of calm and wellbeing to everyday life.

Teaching is delivered in a traditional yet supportive manner, with clear demonstrations, guidance and plenty of time to practise at a steady, accessible pace. The emphasis is on learning without pressure, building confidence gradually and discovering what your body can do. There is no need to get everything right; the aim is to enjoy the process, develop at your own pace and feel increasingly comfortable in your practice.

Additional information

This course is suitable for adults of all ages and abilities. No previous experience of Tai Chi is required, and everyone is welcome. Movements can be adapted to suit individual needs, and participants are encouraged to work within their own comfortable range and progress at their own pace.
