Thank you for your interest in joining Brockenhurst College Sixth Form. Our scenic campus offers a welcoming environment where you can build your knowledge, develop your confidence, and prepare for your next steps.
On this page, you’ll find everything you need to apply, explore courses by subject area, understand the application process, and get a feel for life at Brock beyond the classroom.
If you’re ready to submit your application, select Apply now to access our application portal.
Your application process
Step 1 – Application
September – February
You can visit our website and apply online. We need all applications by the beginning of February, but the earlier we receive them the better. Applications received after 6 February will be considered, but your choice of subjects may depend on availability.
Step 2 – Interview and offer
October Onwards
We will hold interviews from October at either the College, your school or over the telephone. Details of how to book your interview will be available on your Application Portal. At your interview you will be able to talk through your study options and future plans. You will also have the opportunity to tell us what you have done so far. In particular, we will want to see your Record of Achievement file, recent school reports, exam results and identification. You will receive
an email offering you a place and outlining your provisional course choices following a successful interview.
Step 3 – Freshers’ Days
June
This is your opportunity to sample your chosen courses, explore the campus and meet some of your new friends. It is really important that you attend this day so you are confident about your course choices.
Step 4 – Enrolment Portal
July
In July we will email you your Enrolment appointment and give you access to your Enrolment Portal. You will also be able to upload some of the information we need from you. For example, we need a passport-sized photograph to go on your student record, and you must confirm your personal details.
Step 5 – Enrolment
August
At the end of August you will discuss your GCSE results with us and confirm your chosen courses. You will also select your Brock-Extra and Clubs & Societies options.
Step 6 – Induction
September
This will be your first day as a new student. You will meet your Welcome Tutor and other students in your tutor group. You will also receive your timetable for the year.
Life at Brock
At Brock you can enjoy a vibrant social scene with plenty of extra opportunities to engage in new experiences alongside both your old and new friends.
The Hard Brock Café is the main social hub on our Brockenhurst campus and provides a comfortable environment to enjoy a wide range of refreshments.
As well as being part of lively course communities, you can enjoy Enrichment and sporting opportunities that cut across subject groups.
Our Students’ Union also runs social initiatives, from uniting people around common causes to other events focussed on pure enjoyment.

Brock-Extra and Clubs & Societies
Brock-Extra and Clubs & Societies are two separate initiatives designed to help you get even more out of college. You will choose your options at Enrolment from a wide range of activities. These will then be timetabled as part of your Study Programme.
Brock-Extra
Brock-Extra sessions focus on helping you gain new knowledge and skills, independent of your subject(s). Evidence of Brock-Extra success will then give you a more complete learner profile, which will support your UCAS, apprenticeship or job applications. For example, by selecting the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) option, you can explore an area of personal interest and obtain additional UCAS points.

Independence Hub
Your guide to the Independence Hub
As part of Hampshire County Council’s Living Futures pathway for young people with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND), we are equipped to deliver an appropriate education and training resource provision through our Independence Hub. This is to support young people with SEND to remain in their local community and engage in inclusive post-16 education. Our Independence Hub facilitates high-quality, accessible and effective learning inside Hampshire’s Further Education network. This is to support Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) and young people with complex needs to develop the independent living skills they need to participate and thrive, both at college and in the wider community.
Preparing for Adulthood
Our Independence Hub provides a safe space that has specialised facilities designed to meet learners’ needs. Importantly, its location on our main campus in Brockenhurst means that learners are integrated into the wider Brock community. The Hub delivers a bespoke curriculum for learners, reflecting our guiding principles. Above all, it is about preparing for adulthood, supporting young people to progress to independent lives and fulfilling futures. In fact, the overarching curriculum is actually entitled Preparing for Adulthood, and it has been developed by the National Development Team for Inclusion (NDTI) and endorsed by the Department for Education (DfE). It sets out four outcomes, based on what SEND young people say is most important to them. These curriculum elements comprise: Independent Living, Employment, Community Inclusion and Health.
Eligibility criteria
The Independence Hub provides the space and resources for high-needs learners to attend college in their local area. This support is available to young people who are entering their first year in post-16 education after leaving secondary school and who have MLD or complex needs. We provide a five-day-a-week provision for three years and then a further two year part-time provision at post-19. Eligibility for the Independence Hub is based on individual needs. For those it is designed to support, it represents an appropriate educational next step.
Through the consultation process with the Hampshire SEN Team, an Independence Hub placement may be offered to:
- Post-16 students who are entering Year 12 full-time, and for whom the programme is deemed an appropriate educational next step, may be offered a full-time provision.
- Post-19 students who are entering Year 15, and for whom the programme is deemed an appropriate educational next step, may be offered a two-year part-time provision.
- Students whose needs are appropriate to the provision available to them, which may include:
- Young people with complex communication needs.
- Young people with moderate learning difficulties.
- Young people whose medical needs can be met in line with our Supporting Learners and Staff with Medical Conditions policy.
Please note that we do not have the human resources to offer 1:1 support throughout the college day – we can provide small group support only.
Facilities
Facilities in the Hub include:
- Five accessible classrooms.
- Medical Room.
- Hygiene Room.
- Sensory Room.
- Garden.
- Social space and dining area.
- Dedicated drop off/pick up area.
- Secure swipe-in-and-out system.
- Therapy Room for speech and language therapy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
Applications
There are eight spaces available each year.
Places will be agreed between Hampshire County Council and the College. To discuss joining the Independence Hub as a learner, please contact your young person’s SEND caseworker and/or discuss options at their next annual review.

Your Learning
Your Study Programme and our approach to learning work together to give you the study skills and support you need to get the most out of college.
You will create an individual Study Programme (SP) that will serve as your overarching strategy for success. The main feature of your SP will be your subject or subjects. To complement these formal studies, you will add your choice of Enrichments and/or academy commitments. Weekly tutorials with your Academic Tutor will be another important SP feature. You will also use your SP to set targets for independent learning as part of our Blended Learning approach. This independent learning may be completed remotely or on campus. And, last but not least, you will have timetabled slots for engaging with our Next Steps progression initiative.

Here at Brock we are active members of the South Coast Institute of Technology (IoT), alongside other colleges in our region. This initiative is designed to enable colleges and universities to deliver courses that support the government’s aim of reforming vocational and technical education and training.
The IoT’s primary aim is to roll out an enhanced curriculum offer to students that addresses and responds to local and regional skills gaps, supporting business needs. Ultimately, these enhanced courses will prepare students for work in key areas of industry, while simultaneously giving employers a pipeline of candidates with the right knowledge and skills.
The South Coast IoT focuses on supporting the development of courses in three industries where regional skills gaps have been identified – engineering, maritime and digital. Initially, the focus was on providing financial support to colleges and universities in order to significantly improve facilities and equipment access. This focus has now expanded to include providing high-quality careers and progression information, advice and guidance to students, parents/carers and schools.
