Electrical Installations students from Brockenhurst College were given a tour of a new local authority affordable housing development in New Milton last week.

The ten houses and six flats were still under construction, giving learners an ideal opportunity to see how various trades work together to complete a housing scheme.

They paid particular attention to how electricians were wiring the buildings methodically, giving future residents practical and safe electrical amenities.

The New Forest District Council development at Moore Close is expected to be completed shortly.

Councillor Derek Tipp, portfolio holder for planning and economy, said: “We’re committed to encouraging educational opportunities and career pathways in the local community to help the prosperity of the New Forest.

“This visit not only enhances the students’ understanding of their trade, but also underlines our dedication to being an employer of choice.”

Electrical Installations lecturer, Phillip Wood, said: “Our Level 2 Domestic Electrical Installations students enjoyed a visit to the site, which gave them the opportunity to see how electrical work is carried out on an active construction site.

“They were able to speak to electricians to find out about the work they carry out, how it fits in with the building schedule, and how they work with the other trades.”
