STEM Awards at Brockenhurst College sponsored by Honeywell saw 30 awards presented for excellence

High achieving students studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics courses at Brockenhurst College were celebrated at the college’s STEM Awards ceremony recently.

Timed to coincide with British Science Week, the STEM Awards saw top performers honoured with Gold awards and/or Silver awards in the main hall.

All the winners picked up a trophy, a certificate, a citation from the nominating teacher, and a cash prize donated by event sponsor Honeywell – £100.00 for Gold and £50.00 for Silver.

The evening event, hosted by Principal & CEO Helen Odhams, opened with a keynote speech from highly respected computer scientist Professor Dame Wendy Hall.

She talked about her life and career in science and explained what being a scientist meant to her.

A total of 30 awards were then presented to winners in 15 different STEM categories.

Winner of the Gold award for Geology A Level, Juliette Jagger from Ringwood, said:

“It is an absolutely amazing feeling just to be nominated to receive an award in an area of science, let alone actually win it.

“The best way I can describe it is gratefulness that the effort and dedication I put into my studies is recognised.

“Studying Geology at Brock has been an even more brilliant experience than I had expected.

“Lectures are well-presented and understandable, while applying the topics themselves presents enough of a challenge to be very engaging.”
