Foundation Studies students held a plant sale at The Lodge on Tuesday to raise money for a charity being set up in memory of their classmate Lucy Pearson who sadly died in March.

The group, who follow a programme of land-based studies as part of their course, sold a range of specimens, many of which they had grown from seed.

Buyers could select from an array of food-bearing plants such as runner beans, broad beans, peas, strawberries and tomatoes.

There were also ornamental plants for sale including sunflowers, cordylines and geraniums.

Teacher Jenny Thorne said: “The students were very keen for the plants to be put to good use, and we all agreed that Lucy’s charity should be the ultimate beneficiary.”

Lucy, who was from Fordingbridge, passed away after developing post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder, which is a type of cancer.

Before she died, Lucy discussed establishing a charity in her name to support young people in UK hospitals with the same condition as her.

Called Love from Lucy, the charity is currently being set up with the help of Foundation Studies curriculum area administrator, Sarah Dudley, who will serve as a trustee.

It will provide comfort items such as specialist bedding, food parcels and toys.

Sarah Dudley said: “I am honoured to have been asked to be a trustee for Love from Lucy, which we are currently in the process of creating.

“We are very grateful that Lucy’s peers have chosen to fundraise in her memory with their plant sale.”
